Deer Ticks
Everything you need to know about deer ticks but was afraid to ask.

As amazing as it sounds deer ticks are one of the leading causes of diseases to human beings in the United States second  only to those nasty little mosquitoes.  The problem is not caused when the tick actually bites you but from the toxic organisms that are transmitted through the bite that can cause the disease.

There are a hundred different species of ticks throughout the world and they are responsible for carrying everything from Rocky Mount spotted fever, to line disease, to Texas fever.

There are two main groups of  ticks that you really need to know about:

The deer tick along with the American dog tick have a tough black plate or scutum that defines their appearance. Deer ticks have been known to feed on you anywhere from hours to days unlike soft ticks that commonly feed for less than an hour.  Understanding the symptoms and treatment along with prevention of deer ticks can be found in the following article deer ticks.

One of the most important pieces of archery equipment is actually personal hygine. Scentlock clothes and UV scent free detergents are not enough to fool Bull Elk or Trophy Bucks. What to do before archery opening day.

Most archery hunters, seasoned and new have read the articles, have seen the TV commercials on OLN about scent control and how important it is to the archery hunter. All the technology we have today still cannot change the warm humid weather of a Georgia swamp, the pines in Alabama, a Florida Oak Hammock in late September. No different if you are hunting Rocky Mountain Elk, weather can, has and always will change. If you are human you will sweat.

However, there are a few simple things that you an archery hunter can change to improve your chances to bag that trophy. It does not matter how expensive your clothes are, or whether you use your chosen cover scents properly.  Remember, this technology is after all man made from soap to scentlock fabric.

You the hunter need to focus on your natural body chemistry. A week before opening day watch what you eat. Don’t eat foods high in garlic, onions, fat. Stay away from spicy foods like, Mexican, hot peppers, and oily foods.  These foods increase body temperature. When you're sweat becomes air born it carries your scent and give you away to anything with an olfactory organ. So try to eat foods that are more natural with fewer spices. Don’t worry its not forever. Believe me you will live. Try to maintain your diet throughout archery season. Good luck.
